Before you can lead others you must first learn to lead your own life. Angela’s many years as a corporate executive, entrepreneur and executive leadership coach at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business Global Executive MBA program; she discovered a startling observation regarding leaders.
When I ask leaders and executives what they think about themselves and how they lead versus what the people they lead think about them, there is a huge disparity. We help leaders pinpoint the misalignment between what they believe and what their teams believe. The first area a leader needs to look when assessing their team’s engagement and productivity is to look at the leader them self. We call this Personal Leadership. In order for leaders to tap into the power of their personal leadership, a leader must have the courage of introspection, which is the ability to look within them and recognize areas the leader may need to personally address.
